20th Century Fox announced that ‘Prometheus’ is in the pipeline and will star Swedish award winning actress Noomi Rapace. The Alien prequel is slated for a March 9th, 2012 release. Ridley Scott will direct the sci-fi epic.
According to Deadline, what began as a concept for a prequel to Alien has morphed into something much more original. American screenwriter Jon Spaiht’s original script which inspired the idea has been reworked by Damon Lindelof, a television writer most recently noted as the co-creator and executive producer for the TV series Lost. Award nominated director Ridley Scott also helped with the reworking of Spaiht’s original draft upon which ‘Prometheus’ will be based.
The British director and producer is known for his stylish visuals and obsession with detail. Scott’s Oscar winning movies include, Alien (1979), Thelma & Louise (1991), Gladiator (2000) and Black Hawk Down (2001). Scott is in line for a star on the Hollywood walk of fame sometime this year.
Details about the film have been shrouded in much secrecy. However Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron are strong contenders for the other leading female role. There are three other major male roles which have yet to be cast. So watch this space.
In a recent interview Scott said, “While Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this film, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place. Die-hard fan’s will recognize strands of Alien’s DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large, and provocative. I couldn’t be more pleased to have found the singular tale I’d been searching for and finally return to this genre that’s so close to my heart.”
Fan’s of both the Alien franchise and of director Ridley Scott’s plethora of blockbusters will undoubtedly be counting down to the release of this exciting and unmissable movie.
