The Award winning film and television actor Ted Danson has agreed to appear in season 12 of the crime drama series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
The news follows recent revelations that actor Laurence Fishburne, who is the current lead character in the show and who replaced William Petersen in 2008, will not be returning to CSI for a twelfth season. Fishburne himself made the announcement last month after just two and a half seasons on the show.
Following much speculation by fans of the show as to who would replace Fishburne, CBS announced on Tuesday evening that the multi award winning actor of film and television Ted Danson would be cast to star in the popular TV drama. His first appearance will be in September this year.
Danson is best known for his comical roles in such television sitcoms as Cheers, playing Sam Malone, and Becker, as Dr. John Becker. Danson also plays a recurring role on the HBO sitcom Curb Your Enthusiasm and is also a regular on the HBO comedy series Bored to Death.
Danson has won many awards over his thirty-year career, being nominated for fourteen Primetime Emmy Awards, winning two, ten Golden Globe Award nominations, winning three, and one Screen Actors Guild Award and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. TV Guide ranks him second on its list of top 25 television stars.
It’s difficult to imagine Danson in the CSI role, where his character will regularly appear at grisly murder scenes and be examining bodies of victims of gruesome murders, but I look forward to his debut appearance, as I’m sure millions of CSI fans do as well.
