Bear Family Records: The King of Box Sets

Merle Haggard - The Studio Recordings 1969-1976 - Bear Family RecordsHow do they make old recordings sound so good? I have no idea. Artists such as Hank Locklin, Merle Haggard, Wynn Stewart, Tommy Collins, Hawkshaw Hawkins, Hank Thompson, George Morgan, Ricky Nelson, Lefty Frizzell and George Jones never sounded so good. In some cases the record companies would put out greatest hits or only key releases. Bear Family’s exhaustive collections are a music lovers dream.

Merle Haggard’s Capitol Studio Recordings is one of their best sellers, and for a good reason. It sounds great and Haggard is a country music legend regardless of current popularity. There is also a Live, Concept & the Strangers box set which is also a best seller and Untamed Hawk: The Early Recordings. There are a lot of live recordings and many great instrumentals that really are quite steller and a must for a hardcore Merle fan. Hawkshaw Hawkins died in the plane crash that killed Patsy Cline and Cowboy Copas. Three CDs is a small undertaking for Bear Family, but would of been far more extensive if he would have been around longer.

Being from Germany the price is higher, but well worth it. A Merle Haggard Box Set in a low milage 2007 Ford Ranger with a nice 6 CD changer with a great sound system is heaven. Makes the payments for such a nice truck hurt less. Merle is definitely the working mans Country artist. The Hank Locklin Box Set Please Help Me I’m Falling is top notch as well. Thank you Bear Family Records for such quality recordings! You really are the best! You also should be recognized as an elitist for entire recording releases.
