The starting lineup is set for The February Classic and The Daytona 500, a huge start to the NASCAR season. The pole winner is Carl Edwards, with Greg Biffle also on the first row. Winning Gatorade Duel 1 on Thursday was Tony Stewart. He will start in the second row. Winner of Duel 2 was Matt Kenseth, who will also start on the second row.
Danica Patrick was nearly at the end of Duel 1 when she took a hard lick in a crash. She is fine, just disappointed. Optimistically she said,”Maybe the backup car till be faster.” She will start from row sixteen.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. was 2nd in Duel 1 and will start on the third row, and Regan Smith who finishes second in Duel 2 will start on row 3 also. My favorite driver, Jeff Burton, will start on the fifth row with Jimmy Johnson. Jeff Gordon will be on row 8.
Always exciting and impossible to predict, The Daytona 500 is a major sporting event during the time of year when we all need a lift. Michael Waltrip is the most notable not making the race. He will be on hand to assist brother Darrell Waltrip with the coverage. This is the first time since 1972 that a Waltrip has not raced in the Daytona 500.
Nascar is ever tweaking the rules for various reasons, adding twists that make the outcome very difficult to predict. If excitement is what you wish as February draws to a close, tune in to this years Daytona 500 on Fox today at 12:00 Noon ET. Extensive coverage is also available on Sirius XM Radio (NASDAQ:SIRI). In the old days, the Daytona 500 and Indy 500 were about all you could see all year. All season coverage is now extensively available.
