The results for the 55th Grammys are in. The Best New Artist was Fun and this is a good choice. The Record of the Year goes to Gotye with “Someone I Used to Know”. The biggie The Album of the Year was ‘Babel’ by Mumford and Sons. The Song of the Year goes to Fun with “We Are Young”. The Best Pop Vocal is Kelly Clarkson’s ‘Stronger.’ She is still doing excellent and is as good as ever. I like this one a lot. Sir Paul McCartney wins with his ‘Kisses on the Bottom’ for Best Traditional Pop Recording.
The Best Rock Song was won by The Black Keys with “Lonely Boy”. The Best Rock Album is ‘El Camino’ by the Black Keys. The Best Alternative Album goes to “Gotye” and ‘Making Mirrors’. Chick Corea’s piano and Gary Burton’s vibraphone collaboration is excellent. Check out the entire release.
How many great artists past on this year was quite astounding and was shown quite well with a pretty good tribute as you would expect. The Band tribute with Elton John and Mavis Staples got the lions share of the attention here. Levon Helms left us on April 19, 2012, Dave Brubeck on December 5, 2012, Davy Jones on February 29, 2012, Dick Clark on April 18, 2012, Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys on May 4th, 2012, Donna Summer on May 17th, 2012, and on May 20th, Robin Gibb. There were some great ones lost to be sure.
